Red Sox Announcer Dies in One-Car Crash

STURBRIDGE — A 59-year-old Holland man died in a one-car crash on Holland Road this afternoon, according to Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.

Carleton Beane, the public address announcer at Fenway Park, was pronounced dead at Harrington Hospital in Southbridge a short time after the crash. Golfers from nearby Hemlock Ridge Golf Course called police at 12:39 p.m.to alert them to the crash.

A preliminary investigation showed that Mr. Beane’s 2004 Suzuki was traveling northbound on Holland Road, crossed double        

solid lines, left the road and hit a tree and a wall at 233 Holland Road. There were no passengers in the car and no other vehicles involved.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has accepted the case. The crash remains under investigation by the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, The Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council and Sturbridge Police.
