Man Dies After Snowmobile Mishap

DUDLEY – A Southbridge man died and two others survived after all three fell through the ice early last night while snowmobiling on New Pond, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.

Richard C. Redfield, 27, of 9 Rose St., Apt.3, Southbridge, was transported Hubbard Regional Hospital where he died. He had been in the water at least 15 minutes before he was rescued. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

His companions, Jeffrey P. Lougie, 37, of 29 Camelot Circle, Dudley, and Wayne Montigny,

47, of 1423 Hartford Pike, Killingly, Conn., were able to get out of the water with the assistance of the Dudley Fire Department and Dudley Emergency Medical Services. The men had fallen through the ice about 100 yards off shore near 9 Hillcrest Ave. The incident was reported to police at 5:25 p.m.

The State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office, state Environmental Police and Dudley Police are continuing the investigation.
