WORCESTER — A Worcester County Grand Jury handed up a murder indictment today against a Worcester man for a fatal shooting on Chandler Street in May, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.
Angel Ortiz-Santos, 28, of 244 Pleasant St., was indicted for murder, possession of a firearm without an FID card, and possession of ammunition without an FID card.
Ortiz-Santos had initially been charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon resulting in serious bodily injury in the fatal shooting of 44-year-old Carlos Cruz. At 1:27 a.m. on May 8, Cruz was shot multiple times outside the Paku Lounge at 215 Chandler St. Cruz ran across the street after being shot and collapsed on the sidewalk. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Ortiz-Santos has been held without bail since his arraignment on May 11 in Central District Court. With the indictments the case moves to Worcester Superior Court. His arraignment date on the murder, firearm and ammunition charges has not yet been set.
