Two Arrested; Drugs, Cash Seized in Raid

WORCESTER – Two men were arrested and quantities of cocaine and heroin along with $32,000 in cash were seized in a raid Wednesday at 4 Upland Gardens, Apartment 1, Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early announced today.

Jose H. Perez, 33, of 4 Upland Gardens Drive Apartment 1, and Miguel Angel Rivera-Garcia, 30, of 123 Whipple St. Apartment 35, were each charged with trafficking cocaine, possession of heroin with intent to distribute and conspiracy to violate the controlled substances act. They were arraigned today in Central District Court. Bail was set at $20,000 cash for each defendant, and their cases were continued to Tuesday.

State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office, along with Worcester Police, Homeland Security, the U.S. Postal Service, State Police K-9 and a State Police Community Action Team began surveillance of the apartment and three vehicles at 7 a.m. yesterday before executing a search warrant three hours later.

Mr. Rivera-Garcia was stopped and arrested after driving away from the apartment. Mr. Perez was arrested in the apartment.

Police recovered more than 80 grams of cocaine, 15 grams of heroin packaged for distribution, items related to drug distribution and cash in the raid.
