Three Men Charged in Connection with Killing of 28-year-old Man in Worcester

WORCESTER – Three men have been charged in connection with the October 2022 killing of a 28-year-old man in Worcester, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early, Jr.

Kelvin Verde, 23, was arraigned today on a charge of murder in Worcester District Court. He turned himself in today after police obtained a warrant for his arrest. Verde was held without bail and will return to court on March 13.

Berny Calderon, 25, was arraigned in Worcester District Court on Jan. 4 and charged with murder, home invasion and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury.

A judge ordered Calderon to be held without bail on the murder charge and set bail at $5,000 cash on the remaining charges. He returns to court on March 8.

A third man, 30-year-old Luis Cotto, was arraigned in Worcester District Court on Nov. 16, 2022. He was charged with accessory after the fact to murder. Bail was set at $50,000 for Cotto. He returns to court on March 23.

On Oct. 24, 2022, Worcester police responded around 8:40 a.m. to a gunshot call at 480 Burncoat St. Officers located 28-year-old Andrew Barley. He was transported to a nearby hospital with gunshot wounds and later was pronounced dead.

Worcester Police Detectives, prosecutors from the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, and investigators from the Boston Police Department and Nashua, N.H. Police Department gathered evidence that connected all three men to the killing and led to their arrests.

The investigation remains ongoing.
