WORCESTER – Yesterday, a Worcester County Grand Jury handed up indictments for murder and other charges against 26-year-old Snehal Srivastava, of Shrewsbury, for the August 2025 shooting death of 56-year-old Kevin Doherty, of Shrewsbury, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early, Jr.
In addition to the murder charge, Srivastava was indicted on one count of intimidation of a witness, one count of possession of a firearm not at home/work, and one count of vandalism. Srivastava was arraigned in Worcester County Superior Court today on the four counts and held without bail. The case is next scheduled for January 8, 2026.
On August 28, 2025, shortly before 9 a.m., Shrewsbury Police received a 911 call from Mr. Doherty, who reported having an altercation with another individual on the pathway adjacent to Jordan Pond in Shrewsbury. During the 911 call, telecommunicators heard what appeared to be gunshots, at which point the caller became unresponsive. After the suspect fled the scene, Shrewsbury Police arrived on scene, rendered aid to the victim, Mr. Doherty, and facilitated medical transport to UMass Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Shrewsbury Police located and arrested Srivastava a short time later in a nearby residence with the assistance of the Mass. State Police Special Tactical Operations Team (STOP), the Mass. State Police Air Wing and Mass. State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.
Srivastava was initially arraigned in Westborough District Court on August 29, 2025, on charges of armed assault with intent to murder and carrying a firearm without a license and was later arraigned in Westborough District Court on one count of murder. Srivastava has been in custody since the initial arraignment in District Court.
