Pye Arraigned in Worcester Shooting Death

WORCESTER – Matthew Pye, 30, of Worcester was held without bail today after being arraigned in Worcester Superior Court on a murder charge in the shooting death of Shane Bennett, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.

Mr. Bennett, 24, was fatally shot on Aug. 16 on Newbury Street. Prosecutors have said the shooting was part of a drug deal gone bad.

Two other Worcester men, Jeffrey Johnson, 33, and Simon Holley, 28, had been previously arraigned for murder and related charges and are also being held without bail.

In addition to murder, Mr. Pye is charged with possession of a firearm not at home or work and armed assault with intent to murder. Judge James Lemire continued his case to Nov. 20.
