SUTTON — A Sutton man was arrested today in Webster on a warrant for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash that killed a jogger on Singletary Avenue, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.
Shane A. Newman, 39, of 113 Putnam Road, Sutton, was arrested by State Police troopers out of the Sturbridge Barracks with an assist from Webster Police. He was arrested on a warrant out of Uxbridge District Court. Mr. Newman is charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash causing personal injury and death. He will be arraigned Monday morning in Uxbridge District Court.
Daniel DeLima, 51, of Millbury was killed Wednesday morning while running along Singletary Avenue. He was found on the lawn in front of 138 Singletary Ave. at about 8:15 a.m. Mr. DeLima was pronounced dead at the scene.
Debris found nearby led investigators to believe Mr. DeLima had been struck by a white Cadillac SRX. The around-the-clock investigation by the Sutton Police and the State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office led them to seek a warrant for Mr. Newman.
Other agencies working on the investigation were the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council, Millbury Police, Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services and Connecticut State Police.
