WORCESTER – A Worcester man was sentenced to 6 to 8 years in state prison after he was convicted today of armed robbery while masked, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.
A Worcester Superior Court jury found Antonio Barreto, 38, of Worcester, guilty this afternoon. The jury found him not guilty of assault and battery.
Judge Daniel M. Wrenn sentenced Barreto after hearing from the lawyers on the case. Assistant District Attorney David Feraco recommended an 8- to 10-year sentence while defense attorney Sean McGinty suggested 5 years to 5 years and a day behind bars.
Barreto and another man, masked and armed with guns, entered Bling Bling at 91 Stafford St. on April 1, 2014. After a struggle with the store clerk, the men were unmasked but they managed to flee with $2,400. Barreto, a former employee of the store, was arrested. His accomplice was never caught.
