UXBRIDGE – A man, driving a reportedly stolen SUV, was killed in a head-on collision on Route 122 this afternoon, according to Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.
The driver of the other vehicle, Anthony Southwick, 30, of Uxbridge was transported to University of Massachusetts-Memorial Hospital in Worcester with serious injuries. His condition is not known at this time. The deceased driver has not been identified.
Northbridge Police first observed a Ford Explorer in the Rockdale section of Northbridge and determined that the vehicle was reported stolen out of Rhode Island. The police attempted to stop the vehicle but it continued south on Route 122. Northbridge Police backed off pursuit and Uxbridge Police picked it up after the vehicle crossed the town line. Uxbridge Police allowed the vehicle to pull away shortly before the Explorer crossed into the northbound lane and collided with the Toyota pickup truck head-on.
The Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, Uxbridge Police, Northbridge Police are investigating the crash with the assistance of the regional accident reconstruction team.
