FITCHBURG — A 22-year-old man was indicted for murder in the fatal stabbing of 18-year-old Gadiel Maria in Fitchburg, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.

A Worcester County Grand Jury today reported out the murder charge against Jose A. Ramos Solis, of Fitchburg. He will be arraigned in Worcester Superior Court on a later date.

Solis is accused of fatally stabbing Maria, of Fitchburg, shortly before midnight on March 18 during an altercation in the area of Spruce and Salem streets.

Authorities said Maria drove himself to another location and was then transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner performed an autopsy and ruled the death a homicide.

Detectives from the Fitchburg Police Department and State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office continue to investigate.

State Police Crime Scene Services and Crime Lab and the State Police K-9 Unit are assisting in the investigation.
