FITCHBURG — A 22-year-old man was charged with murder in the fatal stabbing of 18-year-old Gadiel Maria in Fitchburg last month.
Jose A. Ramos Solis, of Fitchburg, was arraigned Monday in Fitchburg District Court on the murder charge. He was ordered held without bail and will return to court on May 17.
Solis is accused of fatally stabbing Maria, 18, of Fitchburg, shortly before midnight on March 18 during an altercation in the area of Spruce and Salem streets.
Maria drove to another location and was then transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner performed an autopsy and ruled the death a homicide.
Solis was originally arraigned on March 23 in Fitchburg District Court on a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He was held without bail after that arraignment.
That charge was dismissed after Solis was arraigned on the new murder charge.
Detectives from the Fitchburg Police Department and State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office continue to investigate.
State Police Crime Scene Services and Crime Lab and the State Police K-9 Unit are assisting in the investigation.
