DUDLEY — A 25-year-old Charlton man was arraigned today on charges of cocaine trafficking and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute following an investigation by local and state police, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.

Dwayne E. Lachance of 18 Partridge Hill Road, Charlton, is also charged with possession of a Class E substance with intent to distribute. He was arrested early Thursday afternoon, the result of a joint investigation by Charlton and Southbridge Police, the State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office and the Southern Worcester County Counter-Crime and Drug Task Force.

Investigators executed a search warrant for Mr. Lachance’s vehicle and his home on Thursday. They found approximately 265 grams of suspected cocaine, several pounds of what was believed to be marijuana, scales, grinders, packaging material and more than $45,000 in cash in the home.

Mr. Lachance was stopped after leaving a location in Southbridge. Police searched his vehicle and found significant quantities of suspected cocaine and marijuana along with pills.

Dudley District Court Judge Timothy Bibaud ordered Mr. Lachance held on a probation violation and set $50,000 bail on the new charges. Assistant District Attorney Michael J. Luzzo requested $75,000 bail.

The case was continued to March 2.
