WORCESTER — A 57-year old man, who had been convicted of two counts of rape of a child in Clinton, was found to be a sexually dangerous person by a jury in Worcester SuperiorCourt this week, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.

George Mackie, 57, whose last known address was in Groton, was committed on Monday by Judge Susan E. Sullivan to one day to life at the Massachusetts Treatment Center at Bridgewater.

A qualified examiner testified that the defendant suffered from pedophilia and was likely to reoffend. The examiner recommended that Mr. Mackie be confined to a secure facility.

Mr. Mackie has the right to appeal for his release from the Massachusetts Treatment Center if there is a change in his evaluation.
