AUBURN – State Police Detectives and Auburn Police investigating the death of a 2-year-old girl in Auburn last month are continuing to work with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the cause and manner of the girl’s death, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.
The 2-year-old and a second toddler, then 22-months-old, were found unresponsive on Aug. 15 at the home of their foster mother Kimberly L. Malpass. The toddlers were taken to the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester. The 2-year-old was pronounced dead at the hospital and the 22-month-old was admitted for treatment in critical condition. The second child is alive and remains in the custody of Department of Children and Families.
“This is a death investigation,” Mr. Early said. “The completion of the autopsy, particularly the cause and manner of death, will go a long way toward answering questions about what happened to this little girl.”
State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, the DA’s Child Abuse Unit and the Auburn Police continue to investigate.
