WORCESTER – A Worcester County grand jury handed up an indictment yesterday charging Thomas Garon with murder in the death of a man found in the basement of his home, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.
Mr. Garon, 53, had previously been charged after his arrest on March 5 with disinterment of a body, identity theft, and misleading police in the death of 68-year-old Marcelino Mueces.
Mr. Mueces was reported missing in February. On March 2, Worcester Police Department detectives searched Mr. Garon’s home at 24 Penn Ave. and found Mr. Mueces’ body buried in the dirt floor of the basement. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner performed an autopsy and determined Mr. Mueces’ cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head and torso. The manner of death is homicide.
Mr. Garon was indicted on charges of murder, larceny of a motor vehicle, larceny under $1,200, conveying a human body or remains, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and misleading police.
The indictment moves Mr. Garon’s case to Worcester Superior Court where he will be arraigned on a future date. Assistant District Attorney Christopher Hodgens will be prosecuting the case.
