FITCHBURG – A Fitchburg man was charged with murder today in the 2013 killing of Shaun Hibbard, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early, Jr.
John Yang, 42, was arraigned on the murder charge in Fitchburg District Court after Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office filed the charge in court on Tuesday. Yang was held without bail and is due back in court on Oct. 18.
On Aug. 3, 2013, just after 4 a.m., Fitchburg Police and State Police responded to Forest Street in the city for reports of multiple gunshots. Police located a gunshot victim, 33-year-old Hibbard, on the front porch of 46 Forest St.
Hibbard was transported to Leominster Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Investigators determined Hibbard had been shot during a confrontation near his vehicle that was parked at Forest and Charles streets in Fitchburg. Hibbard ran up Forest Street knocking on doors looking for help following the shooting.
The Office of the State Medical Examiner determined Hibbard died of gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide.
