CLINTON – A prisoner at Souza-Baranowski Correctional Facility has been charged with murder in the death this week of a 72-year-old fellow inmate, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.

Allan Erazo, 27, is expected to be arraigned tomorrow in Clinton District Court. Erazo is serving a 2-year to 2 years-and-a-day sentence after he was convicted of stabbing a cab driver in Chelsea. He was scheduled to be released from prison next month.

William Sires, who was convicted of the 1973 murder of his mother in Dalton, was found badly beaten in a cell on Tier N1 at the prison at about 2 p.m. Tuesday. He was pronounced dead at 2:36 p.m. in an ambulance en route to Leominster Hospital.

The State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office and the Department of Corrections continue to investigate the murder.
