DA Early Sponsors Gang Training for Police

WORCESTER – Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. teamed up with the Worcester Police Department to sponsor an all-day gang training for municipal and campus police departments throughout Worcester County.

The training was held on Sept. 24 at Worcester State University and was hosted by WSU Police Chief Michael T. Nockunas.

In his opening remarks to about 70 police officers, Mr. Early emphasized the need to get violent gang members off the street. He talked about the close working relationship the DA’s office has with the Worcester Police Gang Unit. Deputy Police Chief Mark Roche also spoke to the group.

Topics for the training included gang awareness, prosecuting gang crimes, gun detection and arrest, gang specific laws, Shot Spotter and other electronic monitoring, and applying for anti-gang grants.
