NORTHBOROUGH – Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. today recognized a group of Northborough firefighters who rescued a woman after she became stuck in the ice and mud while chasing her dog.
Northborough Fire Chief David Parenti and Firefighters Dante Brindisi, Ethan Ward, Ryan Snee and Christopher Tetreault were presented with the District Attorney’s Team Excellence and Merit – TEAM Award – for their actions in February 2024.
“These first responders put their training to quick and effective use, helping this woman and her dog out of a precarious situation,” Mr. Early said. “They literally trained for this the day before this save. That training, with an efficient response on the scene, allowed the firefighters to deliver a positive outcome for both this woman and her dog.”
On Feb. 27, 2024 at 10:44 a.m., Northborough firefighters responded to the 911 call of a woman in Carney Park who had gotten stuck in the ice and mud while trying to rescue her dog.
It took only 5 minutes for the firefighters to respond to the park and it was only a matter of minutes later that Firefighter Snee, in a rescue suit, went out into the water after the woman.
He reached the woman a mere 3 minutes later and was able to quickly bring her back to shore, where Firefighter Tetreault was prepared to treat her and bring her to the medics for a full evaluation.
Meanwhile, Firefighter Brindisi was scouting access points to rescue the woman’s dog.
Firefighter Snee then went back and retrieved the woman’s dog, an Australian Shepherd named Sydney, and carried herback to shore.
The woman and her dog were reunited on shore a little after 11:00 a.m., bringing a quick resolution to the incident.
Just the day before, members of the Northborough Fire Department had completed an ice rescue training.
