WORCESTER – Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early, Jr. has identified the victim of an apparent drowning at Bellingham’s Lake Hiawatha on July 4 as Martin Armando Celado-Herrera, 42, of Woonsocket, Rhode Island.

Mr. Celado-Herrera was pronounced dead when he was pulled from the lake around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office responded to the lake to assist Bellingham police officers and firefighters after witnesses called police to report a man in the water around 8:30 p.m.

An initial investigation found that Mr. Celado-Herrera had been in a canoe before it capsized. He was not wearing a flotation device and could not swim, according to witnesses.

The death does not appear suspicious, but remains under investigation by the State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s office and Bellingham Police.
