WORCESTER — A Worcester man, charged with drunk driving following a weekend crash in which two people were injured, was ordered held without bail today pending a dangerousness hearing on Thursday, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.
Assistant District Attorney Julieanne Karcasinas told Central District Court Judge Andrew M. D’Angelo that at about 2:30 a.m., Sunday, James Benoit, 47, of 45 West Hill Drive, was driving his 2004 Chevy Blazer north near 540 Grove St. when he crashed into a parked SUV, injuring a 62-year-old woman who was unloading items from the vehicle.
Mr. Benoit’s vehicle then struck a guardrail. A 28-year-old woman, who was passenger in Mr. Benoit’s Blazer, suffered head trauma, including a serious eye injury.
Mr, Benoit is being charged with operating under the influence of alcohol (third offense), negligent operation of a motor vehicle, OUI causing serious injury, driving with a suspended license, driving an uninsured motor vehicle, driving an unregistered motor vehicle and failure to wear a seat belt.
