UXBRIDGE – The victim of Sunday night’s fatal crash has been identified as Robert M. Orcutt, 55, of 374 River Road, according to District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.

Mr. Orcutt was walking on Balm of Life Spring Road near River Road when he was struck by a tractor trailer driven by James J. Dean, 44, of 41 Farnum St., Blackstone, shortly before 7 p.m. The area of the crash is dimly lit and there is no sidewalk.

Mr. Orcutt lived in a nearby group home for mentally challenged individuals and had gone out for a walk around 6 p.m.

Mr. Dean, who drives for Gorham Transport, was headed from Millville to Gorham, Maine. He reached Gorham, but then came forward after hearing reports about the crash. He returned to Uxbridge early this morning. He told police that he thought he might have hit something and stopped to check. He didn’t see the decedent and continued on his way.

No charges filed yet.

The crash remains under investigation by State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Uxbridge Police.
