FITCHBURG — A mother and her son were killed and another person was injured in a two-car collision this morning, according to District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.

Michelle Martens, 36, and Justin Fournier, 16, of 20 Turnpike Road, Ashby were killed in the crash, which occurred at 10:30 a.m. near 1191 Ashby St.

Wayne F. Patenaude was injured and was taken to Leominster Hospital were he was expected to remain overnight. His age and address were unavailable.

The mother and son were riding in a Kia Sportage, which crossed over a marked lane and struck a Chevy Silverado being driven by Mr. Patenaude. Investigators haven’t determined who was driving the Kia.

The cause of the crash, which is being investigated by the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, State Police and Fitchburg Police, has not been determined.
