FITCHBURG – A 24-year-old man was murdered yesterday about 6:45 p.m. yesterday on Milk Street near Otis Street, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.

Roy Rivera of 66 Fairmont St. received CPR at the scene and was transported to Leominster Hospital where he was pronounced dead of an apparent gunshot wound. The Office of Chief Medical Examiner has accepted the case. An autopsy was to have been performed today.

Fitchburg Police responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired near Milk Street and Alston Place. Police moved up Milk Street near the intersection with Otis Street and found a man slumped over the steering wheel of his car.

The preliminary investigation indicates that this was not a random act. Investigators believe the murder is related to the illegal drug transaction.

State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office and Fitchburg Police detectives are investigating along with State Police Crime Scene Services, State Police Chemists and State Police K-9.
